Carey is a former top fashion model who stands at almost 5'10", was popular with American fashion designers such as Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. Her father, a distinguished scientist who received the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists' 1979 Scientist of the Year prize, is a highly respected geologist. Carey traveled all over because of her father's work. When she was attending the University of Colorado at part-time, she caught the interest of Ford model Agency representative in New York. The model briefly studied and lived in Paris after which she returned to New York. Her modeling and academic career rocketed and she was featured on Vogue's, Glamour's, as well as many other covers of magazines. She attended full-time classes at New York University, obtaining her degree in literature in between assignments as a model. Following a few years she began to develop an passion for acting. She attended the Neighborhood Playhouse New York. In 1986 she had her first role in acting which was a part of Club Paradise, with Robin Williams. She enjoys in wind surfing, skiing and rock climbing. She also enjoys white water rafting.
